etsy ugly cute team

recently i was invited to join etsy ugly cute team. yay, go team! wouldn't that be a great team sweater? ugly cute in big letters with double zeros. i've always liked toys considered "ugly" or slightly grotesque with an annoying cuteness ie: troll dolls, which i was addicted to, big-eyed Keane waifs similar to these vintage paint-by-numbers sad ballerinas i had long ago:
horrible but compelling aren't they? :) and remember these gems:
at the height of my vintage Russ figures collection, god, i must have had about 40 different ones, and a few rare giant ones. this was way before digital cameras, so i never took pics. i had planned to catalog them somehow like a mini museum book. where was flickr then??

so back to my original thought (: i'm flattered that my tiny Bronwyn twins sculpture was included in etsy ugly cute treasury, curated by darkfaerie. check out all the uglycuteness before it expires!

Early Christmas Cheer and Siamese Dreams

L-R: Caspar, Dalaigh, Muirgheal
Our little friends are quite excited about Christmas and feel it's never too early for spreading holiday cheer! They're now up in the shop! (update: Caspar + Muirgheal are SOLD)

Be sure to visit their spooky Halloween counterparts... the amazing double-headed Buddha Bear Witch Gnomes! (All the single headed ones are SOLD OUT). I wonder if our Siamese twins are too weird for most? They were inspired by those fabulous vintage 2-headed troll dolls. If you like strange and unusual (as I do) they'd love to bring you double the giggles and double the magic ;) And they promise to only eat a smidgen of chocolate!

Have a fun Tuesday ^-^

a delicious mess

I've found my favorite combination:
Kiddie size sugar cone, twist with chocolate sprinkle dip please! (alternate dip is the peanut crunch, depending on mood). Rob always gets the cherry dip. How do they get those artificial flavors so realistic?

Another mess: My little palette. Don't ask me how I can mix paint on this thing, but I do!
The mini Halloween Buddha Bear sculptures are being colorized today... stay tuned for update announcement! They are looking amazing if I may say so :)

Have a Happy Thursday, perhaps with ice cream on top!

cocoa bean snatchers

The early sunsets and cool feeling in the air means that Autumn is on it's way! The buddha bear gnomes know it too - they've dusted off their pointy magical hats to prepare for candy gathering and general high jinks! Tee Hee!

Watch out for these new miniature gnomes... they tend to appear out of nowhere, like just when you take the wrapper off a dark chocolate bar (their ultra sensitive ears pick up on sounds like that).

Current + Belated Thank Yous

There's been a few nice shout-outs that have happened this summer, and I'm seriously way behind with the thank-yous! So before I tarry any longer, here's the most recent: cindylouwho2 put together a light hearted Etsy Treasury featuring items "Found using search term BALD". Gotta love that. And guess who popped up? KLAY MAN #1! This Treasury expires Monday Aug 3 (that's tomorrow) so be sure to visit it and check out Cindy's fabulous jewelry shop. P.S. I'm also thinking the KLAY MAN's will make adorable wee ghosties for Halloween!

Next up: (you will get a kick out of this) Fellow cat-lover, ginger ale-sipper, and artist named Cathy Peng awarded me the "One Lovely Blog Award", way back in June. Read about it on her blog. Cathy has cute cat-themed items (but of course!) in her Etsy shop. TY Miss Peng!

And last but not least, Emma of Little Brown Rabbit (love that name) tagged me in June. Here's the link to her blog post about it. I'm so flattered to be tagged, but just don't have the time or energy right now to do the long Q+A. You'd be surprised how long these 'regular' blog posts take me to write :) But I can say for trivia sake, I too had pet rabbits back when I was a youngin'.

Bald, Bunnies and Cat lovers. Who would guess? :O)

Greetings from Playland

I'm always tickled to see collectors pics and the fun, inventive ways they display their Peng Peng's and other bears. These pics were sent in by Tracy and she's graciously allowed me to share them with you. Above: Buddha Bear with his mushroom house. (that house!)

Here is Mr. Yams "at work" in his circa 1914 toy grocery store (made by the Cass Toy Company).
Glad to see he's earning his keep, lol! It seems fitting that Mr. Yams would be a grocer, sorting yams and such? I think he needs a bow tie now. Meanwhile Ting Ting is doing nothing but riding around on a vintage mohair ducky (and how nicely Ting Ting fits in with the old bears :)

Adorable HUG or what? :) Thanks so much for sharing Tracy!

In Etsy news: (I intended to get this posted sooner, but was so busy with my Little Wunders update) My miniature Gnome was featured in another lovely Treasury this month, curated by LaTouchables Bags and Things. Thanks again Dawn, you're too good to me! Miniature Gnome is still hoping for a forever home, and is available right here.

It's a rainy, cool day here...who would guess I'd need long sleeves in June? Hope it is warmer where you are! Toodles for now. xoxo

Over the Weekend

Good day! Hope you had a lovely weekend. Here's some Tickseed cuttings from my first perennial plantings I did yesterday evening. It was a lot of wheel barreling + sneezes digging up the turf, but now we have the bona fide beginnings of a wild flower bed.

More Etsy Treasury love! LaTouchables has curated another cute one called "Boy Meets Girl", featuring my Mini Mushroom Dwelling. The Treasury already expired yesterday (sorry for the late notice!) but my little 'shroom is currently available in the shop.

If I were half inch tall, this is where I'd live :)

Have a marvelous Monday!

Can you guess what these works-in-progress are for?

New teddy bears with paper clay sculpted muzzles coming soon!
Stay tuned :O)

Little Green Men

Just 'cos :)

This morning I had my strength-cardio workout by hauling weed and worm covered bricks from the (dark) side of the garage to another where-do-we-put-this heap (ie: next to the soil heap). The goal is to spread the soil heap to level out the area where the bricks were, so we can plant stuff. But that still leaves us with a pile of bricks. I think every yard has this dilemma at some point. Wish there were little green gnomes with a wheel barrel to help us out. Slowly but surely, progress is happening. One brick at at time. :)

Have a lovely Monday!

A special day for 3 reasons

(my mom Lili, in late-1960's~ i believe pregnant with me under that op-art dress!)

Wishing mom's everywhere a very special, warm and happy day! And that includes mom's to furry babies, animals of all kinds, and plants :) The world needs mom's of all sorts.

Mother's Day also marks the *2 year anniversary of my blog*! Here's a peek of my first post in 2007. How time flies.

And what a surprise! My mini magical mushroom dwelling landed on Etsy's Front Page today! Big hugs to Chyrls for putting together another wonderful Treasury.
It's been a special day already, and I hope yours is too :O)

xoxo, peng peng

Anyone have a beard trimmer?

Oh that LaTouchables is so LaThoughtful! Dawn of LaTouchables has put together another fabulous Etsy Treasury "Strangely Wunderschon". It features a certain bearded fellow Mr. Marbles. Dawn tells me ol' man Marbles is drawing loving attention. Being the last remaining from my February Buddha Bears to find a home (how sad!), Mr. Marbles certainly is basking in the favorite "hearts" he's racked up~ but really only wishes for a nice forever home to rest his beard (it's getting a little longer every day, poor guy).

If you're handy with a beard trimmer and have just a wee bit of space, perhaps Mr. Marbles can enjoy the rest of spring with you? Hanging out on the deck, sipping margaritas, helping in the garden, that sort of thing.

"Strangely Wunderschon" Treasury expires May 8th (that's tomorrow!) so stop by and enjoy the strange loveliness of the items featured.

Update: this just in! Mr. Marble's is featured in his 2nd Treasury! Has he got mojo or what? This was curated by Mooshoopork (thanks sweetie!), highlighting "Local" sellers~ that would be us midwesterners :)....and Mr. Marbles wanted to express his thanks for all the Etsy hearts, and waves his beard in farewells. He's found a home!

Have a terrific Thursday,
xoxo
